Submitting Your Stuff for Review
About this Service:
I hope to make this section serve two functions.
Firstly, and most obviously, to give you an informed view of what's out
there.
Secondly, I'd like to offer my services to you as a Yaroze software reviewer.
What I offer to do is to take a look at what you've produced and provide
free constructive criticism to help you develop what you have.
What I will not do is put down or riducule what you've produced (I understand
how much time and effort these things take).
The Rules of the Game:
- The software you submit must be entirely your (or your team's) work.
- The software must be substantial enough (in gameplay terms) for me
to review i.e:
- I will not review a graphics engine.
- I shall not review source code.
What this means is that I shall only review games with at least one
substantial game level, preferably more.
The exception to this is that I will review graphics/sound demos
(as in the style of Amiga demos - see ShadeBob in the download section)
if they have merit.
- I offer this as a service to you, you must respect that I have other commitments:
- Please do not badger me with the same request (I read all my email, but sometimes have too much to cope with at once).
- Please do not submit v1.00b, v1.01b, v1.02b... v1.xx - I will only be interested in looking at major changes to your game.
- Ensure that the zip file and game work 100% before submission.
- Do not ask me to change my review text without sufficient reason.
- I update my page at irregular intervals - please be patient for changes.
- You respect my position as a reviewer:
- This reviews page is all about MY views.
- If you think you will be offended by light constructive criticism then DO NOT SUBMIT!
- If you believe your software has merit then I will notice it.
- DO NOT get upset by my reviews - they are here to help you.
Do not do something stupid like:
- Engaging in a hate campaign.
- Spamming me.
- Being the least bit annoyed, really.
If you think I have missed some crucial aspect of your game then gently
point me towards it via email.
As a guide as to how harsh I am, take a look at the reviews I've already
written and the relevant software.
- I will not engage in a personal QA service - if you want your game
reviewed then you will need to post it on your page and leave it there
for everyone to enjoy.
- I reserve the right to refuse to review software (even without reason).
This should not normally happen, but do not get the hump if it does.
(See above for things you should not do when you've got the hump...)
- The usual legal disclaimer stuff - I am not responsible for anything, etc...
Wow, quite a lot of rules. I'm not trying to be unreasonable, just trying
to make sure that this scheme (and my relationships) stay amicable with
everybody. Just common sense stuff, I suppose.
Submitting:
Please send me the location of your demo, the full title and
the zip name via email.
I would also appreciate a little information about you/your team
and a note to say you've read and agree to abide with my rules (If you've
skipped them - READ THEM NOW or DO NOT SUBMIT).
DO NOT attempt to send me code by email - this will not be appreciated, thank you.
Please wait patiently for my response
Cheers,
James.
