The ECTS 98 Report List
The ECTS Highlights:
- Chatting with Dave Perry over a game of Wild 9.
- Pestering the Yaroze Team.
- Making sure the first link in the CGB SBF chain got to see the game - and liked it!
- Playing N20 backstage at the Gremlin stand.
- Being one of the first in the world to play Colour GB (The 1-level Mario demo was very nice!).
- Playing Metal Gear Solid, Point Blank 2 etc...
- Seeing Quake 2 (PSX), Zelda, Tomb Raider 3.
- Watching Rare's N64 preview video (Perfect Dark looks excellent!)
- Mingling with a few members.
- Playing the new Micro Machines arcade game at the Codie's stand (mega stuff, Scott E!)
- Watching Messiah crash.
- Coaxing the debug font out of Codemasters' Music.
- Hearing about Nick F's unintentional trip into the Ladies washroom (heh heh!)
- Visiting the Computer Exchange Retro shop with Rob R.
- Those red catsuits - mmm...
- Having my picture taken with the red catsuit girls - and being stroked as I left.
- Finding out Eidos had sensibly decided to drop 'Mad' Frankie Frazer's guest appearance.
- The hydraulic cabinets (a la Space Harrier)
The ECTS Lowlights:
- Being tickled under the chin by a passing 8-foot banana.
- Being roasted alive in the Sony 'oven' (particularly bad on the Yaroze shelf).
- Leaving my Gremlin freebies backstage at the Gremlin stand.
- Not trying to crash the Sony party.
- Attempting to blag a free-copy of a magazine before realising it was 1) Swedish 2) Retail only.
- Was third in the queue when they ran out of film for the Lara shoot.
- Eating 3 burgers in 2 days.
- Didn't quite get round to registering a black Playstation to Waverley House on-line at the NY booth.
- Playing too many derivitive platformers.
- Getting really confused by Fluid.
- Being thrashed at an F1 game by both Jim S and Nick F.
- Fought through hordes of people at the show on Sunday.
- Walking past Jon Hare and wondering who he was for days afterwards (doh!)
- Watching the key industry figures getting more excited by the girls than the games.
- Personally getting more excited about the girls than the games...
- The way your name-badge always turned the wrong way at the wrong times.
- Getting sceptical looks from people who didn't believe I'm a head of software development.
- The bustle of London.
- Seeing the prices in the Computer Exchange Retro shop.
- The anticlimax of the big announcement (A price drop to £229).
- The 'over-enthusiastic' rally simulator ride.
- NDA's restricting what many people said to me.
